Entry Formality
Indians need no permit to visit Andamans Islands. But permits are required to visit Nicobar Islands and other tribal areas, which are given in exceptional cases. Application on a prescribed form may be addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Andaman District, Port Blair.
All foreign nationals can stay in the islands for 30 days. This can be extended by another 15 days with permission. They require a permit to stay from the immigration authorities. In addition, permits can also be obtained from: Indian Missions Overseas, Foreigner's Registration Offices at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta and the immigration authorities at the airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta and Chennai.
Foreigners are permitted to visit the following Islands - East Island, North Andaman, Smith Island, Curfew Island, Stewart Island, Landfall Island, Ayes Island, Middle Andaman, Long Island, Strait Island, North Passage, Baratang, South Andaman, Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep, Flat Bay, North Sentinel Island, Little Andaman,Chowra, Tilang Chong Island, Teressa, Katchal,Nancowry, Kamorta, Pulomilo, Great Nicobar, Little Nicobar, Narcondum Island, Interview Island &, Wiper Island(Day visit only).
Citizens of Afghanistan, China and Pakistan and foreign nationals having their origin in these countries would continue to require the Restricted Area Permit to visit Andaman & Nicobar Islands. In such cases, the Restricted Area Permit (RAP) would be granted only after prior approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs. If any such national is found visiting these Islands without the Restricted Area Permit, necessary penal action would be taken under the relevant provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1946.
Visits to Tribal areas are permitted only after obtaining a Tribal Pass issued by the Deputy Commissioners of South Andaman, North & Middle Andaman and Nicobar. The visits to the forest areas are subject to the restrictions imposed by the Chief Wild Life Warden, A & N Islands and the guidelines issued by the Ministry.
